THE MECHANISMS AND ROBOTICS COMMUNITY AND JMD

The Mechanisms and Robotics Committee has a sustained and venerable presence in ASME and in the larger scholarly design community. Its members have contributed research work characterized by scholarship, innovation, and relevance; they have had significant impact on design education and practice; and they have been the prime movers in establishing JMD as a premier design research journal. It is a large diverse community that crosses the ASME boundaries. JMD provides its preferred venue for papers with strong emphasis on design synthesis and innovation. Jim Schmiedeler is one of our associate editors representing Mechanisms and Robotics—and its younger bright generation, if I may add. I am particularly pleased to have Jim on our editorial board and to have him offer his perspective on this important JMD constituency.
